Experiences as a professor of history at Stephen F. Austin State College and as an instructor and combat officer during World War II. Discusses the college and Nacogdoches as they appeared to him during the 1950s and 1960s, the presidencies of Paul L. Boynton and Ralph Wright Steen, fellow faculty members, and how the various social issues of the day affected the college and the town. Tells of his military experiences in basic training, Officers Candidate School, and combat in Europe.
